ONGC men, Eastern Railway women emerge champions

ONGC men and Eastern Railway women emerged champions in the 59th All-India Grade-A Kabaddi Tournament, which concluded at Khanditar in Jajpur district earlier on Monday. The final matches produced contrasting results with ONGC (Delhi) outplaying ITBP 30-16, while Eastern Railway edged out Kishore Club (Bhubaneswar) 13-12.

Earlier in the men’s semifinals, ONGC prevailed over Union Bank (Mumbai) 35-10 and ITBP got the better of CISF 44-41. In the women’s last-four round, Eastern Railway beat Kalinga Stadium (Bhubaneswar) 29-15 and Kishore Club defeated Pipili 16-9.

Men’s champions ONGC received the top prize of Rs 70,000, while runners-up ITBP were given Rs 50,000. Women’s title winners Eastern Railway and losing finalists Kishore Club became richer by Rs 20,000 and Rs 15,000 respectively.

State Sports Minister Sudam Marandi handed over the trophies at the closing function. Energy Minister Pranab Prakash Das, Dharmasala MLA Pranab Balabantaray, Tata Steel Corporate Communication Chief Mohit Das, Odisha Kabaddi Association secretary Ajay Behera and host Jajpur Kabaddi Association working president Souribandhu Kar were present on the occasion.
